Librarian Cataloguer - Fixed Term

Napier Libraries is on the lookout for a detail-focused and tech-savvy Librarian Cataloguer to join our Collections Team in a fixed term capacity for 16 months.
In this role, you’ll make sure our print and digital collections are accurate, discoverable, and accessible to our community — supporting everything from daily borrowing to research and lifelong learning.
This is a hands-on role where your expertise will help shape the way our collections are presented and maintained. You’ll also contribute to the library’s growth by sharing knowledge, refining processes, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement across our sites.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the integrity of Napier Libraries’ catalogue and metadata.
- Work with both print and digital resources, ensuring our community can easily discover and access what they need.
- Collaborate with a passionate team that values innovation and customer experience.
- Contribute to collection maintenance, including stock rotation, deselection, and system updates.
- Share your expertise by developing resources and supporting colleagues with training and advice.

He kōrero mōhou - About You
- Diploma-level qualification in librarianship or similar.
- 3–4 years of cataloguing experience, including MARC records and authority control.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accuracy across multiple formats.
- Confident working with Library Management Systems and digital platforms.
- Customer-focused and collaborative, with a positive, solutions-driven approach.
- Experience working independently on projects or supporting multi-site operations a plus.

This is a fixed term opportunity for 16 months, to align with the move to the new Napier Library, when staffing needs will be reassessed. This is a full time role working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based across the Napier and Taradale Libraries.
The annual salary package for this role is $63,700-$75,000 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
