Napier City Council is entering an exciting new chapter in how we deliver essential services, and we’re looking for a Team Leader Treatment to help lead the way. This pivotal leadership role is responsible for overseeing water and wastewater treatment operations, as well as trade waste services, ensuring that our community has safe, reliable, and environmentally sustainable water services every day.
You’ll guide a skilled team of operators, foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement, and work closely with internal and external partners to meet regulatory requirements and deliver best practice. Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Lead the day-to-day operations of water and wastewater treatment plants and trade waste services.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and legislative standards, and manage responses to incidents.
- Supervise and develop a skilled team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with maintenance and asset teams to plan upgrades, renewals, and commissioning of new infrastructure.
- Build strong relationships with regulators, stakeholders, and industry partners to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Contribute to Napier City Council’s long-term vision for nationally consistent, future-focused water services.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
- 9+ years’ experience in water/wastewater treatment operations or environmental compliance.
- National Diploma Level 6 in Water/Wastewater Treatment (or equivalent qualification).
- Experienced leader with a track record of managing technical and operational staff.
- Strong knowledge of water quality standards, trade waste regulation, and environmental compliance.
- Excellent planning, coordination, and communication skills.
- Confident with SCADA systems, plant operations, and treatment technologies.
- Committed to best practice in health, safety, and continuous learning.
- Experience with regulatory reporting and audits is an advantage.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based in Napier.
The annual salary package for this role is $105,700-$124,300 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
