Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
This is more than a management role—it’s a chance to lead a high-performing team through change, innovation, and impact. You’ll oversee water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, urban waterways, and our SCADA and controls systems, ensuring they run smoothly, safely, and sustainably. You’ll also drive the development of landmark projects like the Ahuriri Regional Park Wetland Facility, enhancing stormwater quality and creating lasting environmental and community benefits.
What you’ll lead:
- Oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of treatment plants, driving alignment with national water reform.
- Lead trade waste compliance and build strong relationships with commercial stakeholders to protect infrastructure and promote shared environmental outcomes.
- Manage the operation, maintenance, and resilience of wastewater and stormwater pump stations, ensuring reliable service delivery and emergency readiness.
- Champion the integrity and advancement of SCADA systems, automation, and electrical safety across water assets, supporting smarter, data-driven operations.
Lead the development and enhancement of Napier’s urban waterways, including the Ahuriri Regional Park (Lagoon Farm) Wetland Facility to enhance stormwater quality and community wellbeing.

We’re looking for someone who brings deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and a collaborative spirit. You’ll empower your teams, foster industry partnerships, and champion continuous improvement. Your work will directly support Napier’s growth, resilience, and reputation.
You’ll be able to demonstrate:
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering (Process, Mechanical, Environmental), or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in water and wastewater treatment, pumping infrastructure, or industrial compliance.
- Proven leadership experience managing operational teams and contractors.
- Strong knowledge of trade waste regulations and sewer discharge standards.
- Demonstrated expertise in SCADA, automation systems, and electrical/mechanical operations.
- In-depth understanding of environmental management, urban water systems, and stormwater treatment.
- Strong relationship and stakeholder engagement skills, particularly with industry, regulators, and iwi.

This permanent, full-time role (40 hours per week, Monday–Friday) based in Napier. Annual remuneration ranges from $137,000 to $153,000 (including KiwiSaver), depending on skills and experience.
