Are you ready to make a real difference in how the community experiences sport and recreation? As Napier’s Sport & Recreation Facilities Manager, you’ll oversee McLean Park, Napier Aquatic Centre, and Bay Skate, providing guidance and leadership to each facility manager. You’ll set clear objectives, support your team, and ensure every venue operates safely, efficiently, and consistently delivers excellent experiences—from swim lessons and sports tournaments to community events and programs.
This role is also about shaping the long-term future of our facilities. You’ll focus on increasing participation, making the most of our assets, boosting revenue and economic benefits, and ensuring a balance between community access and financial sustainability. By mentoring your facility managers, building strong relationships with schools, sports clubs, iwi, and community groups, and continuously improving operations, you’ll help our venues thrive for years to come while creating spaces where everyone feels welcome.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
Lead and support facility managers across Napier’s sport and recreation venues, setting objectives and monitoring performance.
Shape long-term outcomes by growing participation, improving facility use, generating revenue, and balancing community and financial priorities.
Ensure facilities operate safely, efficiently, and deliver high-quality, accessible experiences for all visitors.
Build and mentor a motivated, high-performing team of facility managers, encouraging continuous improvement and innovation.
Strengthen partnerships with schools, sports clubs, iwi, and community organisations to support programs, events, and participation initiatives.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
Proven experience managing sport, recreation, or venue facilities, including operations, programming, maintenance, and staffing.
Strategic leader who can set objectives, track progress, and deliver long-term outcomes across multiple facilities.
Strong people management skills, able to mentor and support facility managers while fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
Commercially and financially aware, balancing revenue growth, asset optimisation, and community wellbeing.
Excellent relationship-builder, skilled in working with internal teams, community organisations, iwi, and other key stakeholders.
Knowledgeable about health, safety, compliance, and risk management in complex facility environments.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. While your base will be in Napier CBD, you’ll also be actively present across our sport and recreation facilities to support your teams and connect with the community.
The annual salary package for this role is between $130,100-$153,100 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
