Swim Instructor (Part Time)
Make waves in the community – teach, inspire, and build confidence in the water
Are you passionate about swimming and water safety, and enjoy helping people of all ages develop their skills and confidence in the water? As a Swim Instructor at Napier Aquatic Centre, you’ll deliver high-quality Learn-to-Swim coaching, guiding participants safely through each stage of their aquatic journey. You’ll be a key part of a collaborative team, ensuring every lesson is engaging, supportive, and tailored to individual needs.
This role is more than teaching – you’ll contribute to the smooth operation of the centre, support events and programmes, and actively help improve processes and outcomes for both participants and the wider community. You’ll also play an important role in delivering inclusive Learn-to-Swim experiences, supporting neurodivergent children and children with additional needs with patience, confidence, and care. With a focus on continuous learning and safety, you’ll play a vital role in shaping positive aquatic experiences for everyone who walks through our doors.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
Deliver engaging and safe Learn-to-Swim lessons, tracking progress and celebrating achievements
Supervise pool users during sessions, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment
Contribute to the centre’s operations, including setup, pack down, and maintaining facility standards
Support events, programmes, and community initiatives at the Napier Aquatic Centre
Collaborate with a passionate team, helping drive continuous improvement in teaching, reporting, and service delivery
He kōrero mōhou - About You
Qualified Swim Teacher (STA / Aus Swim or equivalent) with experience delivering Learn-to-Swim programmes
Confident in adapting teaching style to suit different learning abilities and ages
Professional, open, and clear communicator with learners, parents, and colleagues
Knowledgeable in pool safety, operational procedures, and basic first aid
Enthusiastic, proactive, and committed to fostering a positive and safe learning environment
Patient and confident working with neurodivergent children and children with additional needs, with a genuine passion for inclusive Learn-to-Swim delivery
The following are highly desirable, but not essential: Diploma in Education, Level 4 Swim Teaching qualification, experience with special needs or private lessons
Applicants who are not yet qualified may be supported with training, including the opportunity to obtain an AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence

This is a permanent opportunity working part time (20 hours a week) during school terms only. You will be based at the Napier Aquatic Centre on Maadi Road.
The annual salary package for this role (pro-rated for 20 hours per week) is $26,100 - $30,700 (including KiwiSaver). This equates to $25.10 - $29.60 per hour (including KiwiSaver). The final offer will depend on your skills and experience.
