Are you passionate about connecting communities through literacy, technology, and inclusive programming? Napier Libraries is seeking a dynamic Community Engagement Librarian to lead innovative outreach across our library branches, Mobile Library, and wider community spaces.
In this pivotal role, you’ll design and deliver engaging programmes for children, youth, and adults — with a strong focus on digital skills, literacy, and community partnerships. You’ll collaborate with local groups, schools, and organisations to ensure our services reflect the diverse needs of Napier’s communities.

Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Lead meaningful community programmes that promote literacy, digital inclusion, and lifelong learning.
- Design and deliver outreach initiatives across library branches, schools, and Napier’s wider community.
- Build strong partnerships with local organisations, schools, and community groups to expand engagement.
- Explore new technologies and service models to keep programming fresh, relevant, and responsive.
- Be part of a collaborative, innovative team focused on making a real impact in people’s lives.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
- NCEA Level 3 or equivalent education
- 3+ years’ experience delivering community, outreach, or library programmes
- Confident engaging with diverse groups and building strong community relationships
- Warm, empathetic, and customer-focused approach
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Organised and detail-oriented, with solid MS Office skills
- Comfortable exploring new technologies and service models
- Understanding of the community and voluntary sector, including work with disadvantaged groups
- Full driver’s licence and willingness to work across multiple locations

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week. The hours for this role are Tuesday to Saturday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.
You will be based across Napier and Taradale Library branches, work from our mobile library van, and lead outreach in community spaces.
Remuneration for this role sits between $59,700-$70,300 per annum (including KiwiSaver) depending on your skills and experience.
We will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person.
