Are you an experienced museum collection manager or registrar with experience with museum storage or relocation projects? MTG Hawke’s Bay is seeking a solution focused and positive leader to join the team on a fixed term basis as Collection Relocation Officer. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to be part of the team relocating the museum collection to the new purpose-built storage and research centre in Hastings.
As Collection Relocation Officer, you will supervise and coordinate a team of staff based at the Napier sites and Hastings as required to ensure the timely and safe relocation and location tracking of the Hawke’s Bay Museums Trust (HBMT) collection from the current premises to the new storage facility.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Rare and exciting opportunity to lead a team as part of a significant collection relocation to the new storage.
- You will be responsible for coordinating and supervising/managing the collection relocation team based in Napier (may include work at the Hastings site as required).
- You will ensure the packing and transportation from Napier meets the timeline whilst ensuring object safety.
- Responsible for ensuring inventory control as part of the relocation.

- Post graduate diploma in Museum Studies or similar
- A minimum of three years relevant industry experience
- Excellent museum collection handling experience
- Experience leading a team
- Good level of fitness and strength

This is a six-month fixed term opportunity, working 40 hours per week.
You will be working across and between several sites in Hawke's Bay, including the MTG, the current collection storage facility, and the new facility in Hastings.
Equivalent annual salary of $75,669-$89,022 depending on skills and experience.
We will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person.
