Parking & Napier Assist / Āwhina Tāngata Officer

This is a role that puts people at the centre. Working across Napier’s streets, public spaces, and CCTV systems, this position plays a key part in supporting community safety, keeping traffic flowing, and helping create a city environment that feels welcoming and well looked after. From providing directions to visitors, to responding to incidents or supporting events, the work is varied, visible, and meaningful.
Alongside enforcement responsibilities, this role is about how those interactions are handled. A calm, respectful approach goes a long way whether that’s educating someone on parking rules, de-escalating a situation, or working alongside Police and community partners. It’s a hands-on role that requires good judgement, strong communication, and a genuine interest in supporting the community day-to-day.

Be out and about in the community, providing a visible and positive presence across Napier
Support public safety and wellbeing through patrols, engagement, and proactive response
Play a key role in keeping the city moving through fair and consistent parking enforcement
Work across a mix of environments including public spaces, events, and CCTV monitoring
Build strong connections with local businesses, residents, and partner agencies
Be part of a team that takes pride in creating a welcoming and well-managed city

Brings a calm, practical approach with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure
Experience in community services, enforcement, security, or a similar people-facing role
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully across a wide range of situations
Confident handling challenging interactions and working through conflict constructively
Comfortable using technology and working across varied shifts, including evenings or overnight
Reliable, team-focused, and committed to supporting a safe and positive community environment

This is a permanent full time position, across any 5 days as rostered (over 7 days an including public holidays)
The annual salary package for this role is between $63,793 - $75,051 (including KiwiSaver) with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
