As Napier continues to grow and evolve, we’re looking for a Development Standards Coordinator to play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality engineering outcomes across the city. In this role, you’ll manage development-related applications, helping the team to provide advice to internal and external stakeholders, and ensure consistent engineering standards are applied across projects. You’ll be the key liaison connecting developers, consultants, and council teams, keeping processes running smoothly while contributing to system improvements and policy updates.
This is a hands-on, collaborative role where your initiative, organisation, and problem-solving skills will be put to full use. From processing applications and tracking progress to supporting regulatory compliance and service requests, your work will directly impact the quality, safety, and efficiency of Napier’s development. Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
Be a key point of contact for engineering applications, providing advice and support to internal and external stakeholders.
Coordinate development standards, regulatory compliance, and service requests to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes.
Contribute to process improvements, system enhancements, and updates to codes, policies, and council documents.
Collaborate across teams, building strong relationships and helping enable smart, efficient development across Napier.
Work in a dynamic, supportive environment where your initiative, ideas, and problem-solving skills make a tangible impact.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
3–4 years’ relevant experience in engineering, local government, or regulatory/compliance environments.
Practical understanding of engineering, environmental, and planning principles, with confidence in applying standards and legislation.
Strong coordination, communication, and relationship-building skills – able to work across multiple teams and with external stakeholders.
Highly organised, adaptable, and capable of managing competing priorities and deadlines.
Proactive, analytical, and committed to continuous improvement, innovation, and excellent customer service.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based in Napier’s CBD.
The annual salary package for this role is between $63,700-$75,000 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
