Executive Assistant to the Mayor
Support Napier’s Mayor and Councillors in a dynamic role at the heart of local leadership
This is a unique opportunity to join Napier City Council as Executive Assistant to the Mayor, providing high-level administrative, governance, and event support. You will keep the Mayor’s office running smoothly — managing diaries, correspondence, travel, and civic events — while contributing to community engagement and communications. This role blends operational excellence with a front-row seat to local leadership in action.
Working closely with the Governance Manager, Councillors, and the Executive Leadership Team, you’ll coordinate meetings, support elections and civic ceremonies, and play a key role in delivering special projects. Your work will help the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to focus on leading Napier while you ensure the office functions efficiently and professionally every day.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
Deliver high-quality administrative, governance, and event support to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councillors.
Coordinate civic events, meetings, and travel arrangements, ensuring smooth and professional delivery.
Contribute to community engagement and communications initiatives, acting as a key point of contact for stakeholders.
Support special projects and provide professional continuity across the Mayor’s office and Governance Team.

Highly organised, proactive, and adaptable, with a “can do” attitude and excellent relationship-building skills.
Experienced in senior-level executive support, with strong diary management, correspondence, and travel coordination skills.
Exceptional attention to detail, able to prioritise, meet deadlines, and deliver under pressure.
Skilled in Microsoft Office and office systems, with strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Previous local government experience highly desirable.

This is a permanent, full-time role (40 hours per week, Monday–Friday) with occasional flexibility needed to support special events, meetings, and other civic commitments. You will be based in Napier’s CBD.
The annual salary package for this role is between $79,091-$93,048 per annum (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
