Do you get a kick out of connecting people with books they’ll love, solving tech puzzles, and showing others just how magic a library can be? We’re looking for full time Customer Service Librarians on a fixed term basis who bring positivity, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for stories in all their forms.
In this role, you’ll be a welcoming presence for our community—supporting everything from everyday enquiries to children’s activities and tech support. Every shift brings something new, and that variety is what keeps you engaged.

Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Deliver high-quality customer service across all library functions, supporting users with enquiries, technology, and access to services.
- Support the day-to-day operations of the library, including shelving, cash handling, and maintaining the presentation of collections.
- Assist in the delivery of library programmes and community outreach initiatives, including reading programmes and digital literacy sessions.
- Work collaboratively across Napier and Taradale branches as part of a dedicated team focused on continuous improvement and community engagement.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
- Five years’ experience delivering excellent customer service and helping people find information, resources, and support.
- Confident using digital tools and technology, with the ability to assist others with basic tech enquiries.
- Strong attention to detail, well-developed organisational skills, and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
- Familiar with databases, ideally a Library Management System.

We have two full-time fixed-term opportunities available:
- 12-month role: Sunday to Thursday
- 16-month role: Tuesday to Saturday
Both positions are 38.5 hours per week and based across Napier and Taradale Libraries.
The equivalent hourly salary for these roles is $26.80-$31.60 per hour (including KiwiSaver) depending on your skills and experience.
