This is a rare opportunity to step into a brand-new role and shape it from the ground up. As our Asset Engineer – Planning, you’ll be joining a collaborative and highly skilled team where your ideas and expertise will help define how we manage and plan for Napier’s waters networks.
You’ll play a central part in developing renewal forecasts, valuation frameworks, and investment strategies—ensuring decisions are guided by reliable data, modelling tools, and sound asset management principles. The work you do will directly influence the resilience, sustainability, and performance of critical infrastructure that supports our growing community.

Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Lead the development of long-term renewal and investment strategies for Napier’s waters networks.
- Apply lifecycle asset management principles to ensure infrastructure remains efficient, resilient, and sustainable.
- Use tools such as GIS, AMIS, and hydraulic/network modelling to drive scenario testing and capacity planning.
- Contribute to national compliance and reporting requirements, ensuring our plans meet both local and regulatory expectations.
- Collaborate across technical and strategic teams to ensure decisions are well-informed and aligned with community needs.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
- Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, with at least 5 years’ experience in infrastructure planning (ideally within water services).
- Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management, renewal forecasting, and infrastructure valuation.
- Proficiency with GIS, AMIS, and modelling tools, with proven experience in data governance and validation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to work across technical and non-technical teams.
- Collaborative, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to balance strategic intent with practical outcomes.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based in Napier.
The annual salary package for this role is $105,700-$124,300 (including KiwiSaver) with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
