We’re on the hunt for part time Customer Service Librarians who brings warmth, energy, and a serious love of stories (in any format!) to every shift. These are fixed-term opportunities for 16 months while we await the completion of Te Aka - our new Napier Library. 

You’ll be the smiling face that welcomes our community, the go-to guide for all things library, and a helping hand for everything from kids' programmes to tech support. No two days are the same, and that’s just how you like it.

Te Āheinga - The Opportunity

• Deliver high-quality customer service across all library functions, supporting users with enquiries, technology, and access to services.
• Support the day-to-day operations of the library, including shelving, cash handling, and maintaining the presentation of collections.
• Assist in the delivery of library programmes and community outreach initiatives, including reading programmes and digital literacy sessions.
• Work collaboratively across Napier and Taradale branches as part of a dedicated team focused on continuous improvement and community engagement.

He kōrero mōhou - About You

• Five years’ experience delivering excellent customer service and helping people find information, resources, and support.
• Confident using digital tools and technology, with the ability to assist others with basic tech enquiries.
• Strong attention to detail, well-developed organisational skills, and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
• Familiar with databases, ideally a Library Management System.

We have multiple part time roles available, with hours as follows:

• 4 roles at 20 hours/week: Wednesday to Saturday, 9:30 am–2:30 pm
• 4 roles at 25 hours/week: Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30 am–2:30 pm
• 1 role at 12 hours/week: Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 am–4:00 pm (Taradale Library only)

All roles (except the weekend-only position) will be based across both Napier and Taradale Library branches

The equivalent hourly salary for these roles is $25-$30 per hour depending on your skills and experience.

We will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person.
