Plant Driver Operator

Are you ready to take the wheel in a role that’s hands-on, impactful, and all about keeping Napier flowing smoothly? We’re on the lookout for a skilled operator to drive Napier City Council’s vehicles and machinery, including tipper trucks, loaders, excavators and our JCB backhoe loader.
In this role, you'll go beyond driving, playing a key part in maintaining and constructing wastewater and stormwater reticulation systems, along with other essential Council assets. From keeping our fleet clean and efficient to tackling drainage challenges head-on, you’ll be a vital player in creating a resilient and sustainable Napier.
Your responsibilities as Plant Driver Operator will include:
- Driving and operating trucks, plant and machinery
- Ensure plant vehicles and tools are left in a clean and tidy state ready for next use.
- Undertake daily vehicle and plant checks for damage and to ensure vehicles are compliant
- Machine and plant maintenance – ensure maintenance has been undertaken
- Report any damage to plant and equipment immediately to Team Leader
- Follow safe loading and unloading procedures
- Assist with repairs and general maintenance on the Council’s drainage networks and associated infrastructure to a high standard, and in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assist in the efficient and effective operation of the wastewater and stormwater reticulation networks.
- General labouring
- Help the drainage crew onsite as required
- Identify and report serious faults and report promptly to the Team Leader Drainage.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- NCEA Level 2 qualification
- Current driver’s license (including Class 2)
- Experience operating machinery and equipment
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude
- Strong customer service skills
- Committed to integrity, health and safety, and quality
- Excellent communication and attention to detail
- Ability to follow procedures and guidelines
