Join Napier City Council in a role that helps keep our city flowing. As a Water Serviceperson, you'll play a hands-on role maintaining, repairing and upgrading the infrastructure that delivers safe drinking water to homes and businesses every day.

We're looking for someone with practical experience in water services or a similar field. However, if you're motivated to learn and bring the right attitude, we're also open to supporting the right person into the role. Working alongside an experienced and supportive team, you'll respond to customer requests, emergency callouts and planned maintenance, with opportunities to broaden your skills across a diverse range of water infrastructure. It's a varied role from planned to unexpected work but the work you do makes a real difference to our community.

Te Āheinga - The Opportunity

• Conduct repairs and maintenance on the Council's water supply systems and associated infrastructure with precision and efficiency.

• Support the smooth operation of water reticulation networks, contributing to an effective and reliable water supply for Napier City.

• Quickly identify and report any significant faults to the Team Leader Water, ensuring prompt resolution.

• Respond promptly to customer service requests, providing timely completion and feedback to the Team Leader Water.

• Be available for call-out duties on a rostered basis and effectively handle emergency situations as they arise.

• Interact with the public in a courteous manner, reflecting the friendly and customer-oriented image of Napier City Council.

• Relevant qualification eg; National Certificate in Utilities Maintenance or Water Reticulation (or motivated to work towards one as one of our Trainees)

• Flexible, reliable, and safety-focused, with strong attention to detail.

• A team player who can also work independently and show initiative.

• Good communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.

• Hold a full (or restricted) driver’s licence; motivated to develop technical skills.

• Previous experience in construction, civil works, or water infrastructure is desirable.

This is a permanent, full time role working 42.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You’ll be based out of Napier City Council’s operational depot in Onekawa, but spend much of your time working on the network across the city.

The hourly rate for this role is between $30.46 - $32.40 (plus KiwiSaver if eligible), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.

However, we welcome Trainee's where these positions sit between $28.68 - $29.90 (plus kiwisaver)
