As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll play an important role in maintaining the mechanical assets that keep these essential services operating safely and efficiently.
Working across treatment plants, pump stations and other Water Services facilities, you'll carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance while supporting mechanical installations, asset improvements and capital works. This is a hands-on role where your technical expertise, problem-solving skills and commitment to quality workmanship will make a real difference to the reliability and performance of our infrastructure.
Whether you're diagnosing faults, rebuilding pumps, fabricating components or supporting new installations, you'll be part of a collaborative team that takes pride in delivering practical solutions and maintaining essential services for our community.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll:
Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across Council's water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure.
Diagnose, repair, overhaul and commission pumps, valves, hydraulic systems and other mechanical equipment.
Support capital works through the installation, fabrication, testing and commissioning of mechanical assets and pipework.
Contribute to improving asset reliability by identifying faults and recommending practical repair or replacement solutions.
Work closely with contractors, suppliers and internal teams to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes.
Maintain accurate maintenance records while contributing to continuous improvement, safety and a positive team culture.

You'll be a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter who enjoys working in a hands-on environment and takes pride in delivering quality work. You're someone who can work independently, solve problems confidently and collaborate effectively with others to keep essential infrastructure operating at its best.
You'll also bring:
A trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Engineering Maintenance or an equivalent discipline.
Experience maintaining pumps, valves, hydraulic systems and mechanical plant within an industrial environment.
Strong fault-finding, diagnostic, welding and fabrication skills.
The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
A strong commitment to health and safety, quality workmanship and continuous improvement.
Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a proactive and solutions-focused approach.

This is a permanent, full time role working 42.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You’ll be based in Napier.
The hourly rate for this role is between $42.99 - $44.82 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
