Pool Receptionist – Part Time (with potential for full-time)

At Napier City Council, our aquatic facilities play an important role in supporting community wellbeing, recreation, and connection. Napier Aquatic Centre is a busy and welcoming environment where people of all ages come to swim, learn, and relax—and our reception team is central to creating a positive experience for every visitor.
We’re currently seeking Pool Receptionists to join our Customer Services team in part-time roles, offering flexible hours across the fortnight. These roles provide an excellent opportunity to balance work with other commitments while being part of a supportive, team-focused environment. For the right candidate, we’re also open to discussing a full-time arrangement, with hours agreed during the recruitment process.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
Be the welcoming face of Napier Aquatic Centre, assisting swimmers and visitors with enquiries and information
Manage bookings, cash handling, payments, and reception administration
Support Centre operations by maintaining high presentation standards and accurate records
Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all customers
Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth daily operations
He kōrero mōhou - About You
Proven experience in a customer-focused role, ideally in retail or a busy service environment
Confidence handling payments, bookings, and basic administration with accuracy
Strong communication skills and a warm, professional manner
The ability to stay calm, organised, and positive in a high-energy environment
A flexible, team-focused approach and willingness to pitch in where needed

This role is being advertised as two permanent part-time positions, offering greater flexibility for both the team and applicants. Hours will be rostered to support operational needs and may include varied shifts across the fortnight. One position is approximately 32.25 hours per fortnight (Week 1: 15.25 hrs, Week 2: 20 hrs) and the other is 36.25 hours per fortnight (Week 1: 12.25 hrs, Week 2: 24 hrs).
For the right candidate, we are also open to considering a full-time appointment, with hours discussed at the interview stage.
The hourly rate for this role is $27.81-$30.18 (plus KiwiSaver if eligible), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
