Senior Network & Systems Engineer

Napier City Council is seeking a Senior Network & Systems Engineer to lead our networking, firewall and security infrastructure. This role provides the opportunity to apply deep technical expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining reliable, secure, and high-performing IT systems that support the work of the Council and the community it serves.
Working closely with the rest of our Digital Services team, you’ll provide technical guidance, mentor engineers, and collaborate with suppliers to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes. A friendly, approachable team player, you care deeply about your work and take pride in contributing to a high-performing, collaborative team. Your advice will help shape projects and the Council’s technology roadmap, while building capability across the team and contributing to a strong, professional service culture.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
Act as the technical lead for Council’s networking and firewall environment
Design, implement and optimise secure, resilient infrastructure solutions
Provide expert advice to inform projects, programmes and future technology direction
Support and guide other engineers and vendors to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes
Contribute to a strong performance culture and the ongoing maturity of Digital Services

Senior Networking and Security Engineer with extensive IT infrastructure experience
Proven experience working across complex on-prem, virtual and cloud environments
Strong analytical capability, with the ability to assess issues, make sound decisions, and clearly articulate recommendations
Demonstrated ability to mentor others, build capability, and share knowledge across a technical team
Collaborative, proactive and comfortable engaging with leaders, suppliers and technical peers

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based in Napier’s CBD.
The annual salary package for this role is between $105,700- $124,300 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
