Financial Reporting Accountant
Use your accounting expertise to support transparent, trusted financial reporting for Napier City
As our Financial Reporting Accountant, you’ll play a key role in delivering accurate, high-quality financial reporting that supports strong decision-making across Napier City Council. Working within our Finance team, you’ll lead and support statutory reporting including the Annual Report, Annual Plan and Long-Term Plan, ensure compliance with accounting standards and legislation, and work closely with auditors and stakeholders to maintain the integrity of Council’s financial information.
This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working at both a detailed and strategic level. You’ll provide trusted financial advice across the organisation, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and help strengthen systems, processes and data quality. Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
Lead and support statutory financial reporting, including the Annual Report, Annual Plan and Long-Term Plan.
Manage balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance across financial systems.
Work closely with auditors and coordinate audit processes and legislated financial returns.
Provide high-quality financial advice, insights, and training to internal stakeholders.
Drive continuous improvement across financial reporting, systems, and processes.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with CA membership (CAANZ).
Significant senior accounting experience, ideally within a regulated or public sector environment.
Strong technical capability interpreting and applying accounting standards and legislation.
Proven ability to work with complex data, develop financial models, and deliver insights for decision-making.
Organised, proactive, and collaborative, with the ability to manage competing priorities and statutory deadlines.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based in Napier’s CBD.
The annual salary package for this role is between $105,700-$124,300 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
