As a Community Engagement Librarian, you’ll play a key role in shaping how our libraries reach and inspire the community — from early literacy and youth programmes to digital inclusion and lifelong learning initiatives. This is a creative, hands-on role where every day offers something different: running events, building partnerships, and helping people discover new ways to learn, connect, and thrive.
Working across our library network and out in the community — including schools, neighbourhood hubs, and the Mobile Library — you’ll help make our services accessible, welcoming, and relevant for everyone. - Develop and deliver engaging library programmes that foster literacy, digital confidence, and social connection.
- Build strong partnerships with schools, community groups, and organisations to extend the reach of library services.
- Contribute to innovative outreach initiatives, including the Mobile Library and community-based events.
- Support Napier Libraries’ mission to create inclusive, accessible spaces that enrich lives and strengthen communities.

- Experience delivering community, outreach, or educational programmes with strong organisational and facilitation skills.
- A passion for connecting people with learning, technology, and community resources.
- Skilled at building positive relationships with diverse groups and collaborating effectively across teams.
- Creative, adaptable, and motivated to find new ways to engage and inspire Napier’s communities.

This is a one-year fixed term opportunity to cover a secondment. You will be working fill time, 40 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday. You’ll be based across the Napier and Taradale Libraries and also work out of our Mobile Van and across the Napier community.
The annual salary package for this role is between $59,700-$70,300 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
