Faraday Museum Assistant - Casual
Bring history to life — help create an unforgettable experience for visitors at Napier’s Faraday Museum
Step into a role where curiosity and connection meet. We’re looking for casual Faraday Museum Assistants to be at the heart of Napier’s interactive technology museum — welcoming visitors, sharing stories, and helping to create a safe and engaging environment for all ages. No two days are the same: from opening the doors and supporting school groups to ensuring the exhibits and facilities are running smoothly, you’ll play a key part in delivering a great visitor experience.
If you’re passionate about people, enjoy hands-on work, and have an interest in local history, science, or technology, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a small, friendly team that takes pride in making learning fun and accessible for everyone.
This is a casual role, giving you the flexibility to work as required and fit shifts around your own schedule. We’re especially keen to have people who can be available over the school holidays — it’s when the Museum really comes alive!
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Be the friendly face of the Faraday Museum — greeting visitors, processing transactions, and assisting with bookings.
 - Support smooth day-to-day operations, from opening and closing duties to helping maintain a safe, tidy, and welcoming environment.
 - Work closely with the team to deliver exceptional customer experiences and engage with the community.
 - Enjoy a varied role that combines visitor interaction, operational support, and a touch of hands-on museum work.

He kōrero mōhou - About You
- You have great communication and customer service skills, with a calm, friendly, and helpful manner.
 - You’re organised, reliable, and comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
 - You bring enthusiasm and energy — with the flexibility to work weekends and support school or group bookings.
 - Experience in a museum, tourism, or customer service environment is an advantage, but a genuine interest in people and learning is just as valuable.

This is a casual position; employment will be on an as-needed basis without any guaranteed hours. Availability over summer holidays and school breaks is essential.
You will be based at the Faraday Museum of Technology in Napier.
The hourly rate for this role is $24.40- $28.70 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
Applications for this role close on 5 December 2025, however due to the highly competitive employment market we will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person. Please do not delay in making your application.
