Water Serviceperson Leading Hand
Help deliver one of Napier’s most essential services. As a Water Serviceperson Leading Hand, you’ll play a hands-on role in maintaining and improving the city’s drinking water network. Working alongside an experienced and supportive team, you’ll make sure our water systems are running safely, efficiently, and in line with environmental and regulatory standards.

Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Support the Team Leader with coordinating daily work and mentoring junior staff.
 - Carry out maintenance and repairs across Napier’s water supply network, ensuring high standards and timely results.
 - Carry out new construction works to design specifications, including connections, water mains, meter and blackflow preventor installations.
 - Help drive improvements by embracing new technology and smarter ways of working.

He kōrero mōhou - About You
- A relevant qualification in Water Reticulation, Utilities Maintenance, or equivalent experience in water network construction and maintenance.
 - Strong leadership and communication skills — you’re confident guiding others and promoting safe, efficient work practices.
 - Practical, hands-on experience with water supply systems, traffic management, and compliance requirements.
 - A proactive, team-focused attitude, with a genuine sense of ownership and pride in your work.

This is a permanent, full time position working 42.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based out of NCC’s operational site in Onekawa, but spend most of your time attending jobs in the field.
The hourly rate for this role is $33.67-$36.54 plus KiwiSaver if eligible, with the final offer depending on your skills and experience. That’s $74,400-$80,700 (plus KiwiSaver) per year.
