Tradewaste Officer
Put your environmental skills into action and help shape a cleaner, healthier Napier
Help protect Napier’s waterways and environment as a Trade Waste Officer with Napier City Council. In this role, you’ll monitor and manage trade waste discharges, work with local businesses to promote compliance, and ensure our wastewater and stormwater networks are protected from harmful pollutants. Your efforts will directly support the health of our community and the sustainability of our infrastructure.
This position offers the chance to apply your environmental knowledge in a practical, community-focused setting. From on-site inspections to data analysis and enforcement, you’ll contribute to cleaner water and better environmental outcomes for Napier. Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Monitor and enforce compliance with Napier’s Integrated Trade Waste and Wastewater Bylaw.
- Conduct site inspections, review consents, and work with businesses to promote pollution prevention.
- Investigate discharges and environmental incidents to protect public and environmental health.
- Collaborate across Council and with external agencies to drive continuous improvement in water quality management.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in environmental management or a related discipline.
- Bring 4–5 years’ experience in environmental compliance, trade waste, or water quality monitoring.
- Strong communicator with analytical thinking, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Confident working independently and collaboratively, with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.

This is a permanent, full time role working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You’ll be based in Napier.
The annual salary package for this role is between $84,652-$99,500 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
