Napier Libraries are seeking a motivated Collections Librarian to help shape and maintain collections that inspire, inform, and connect our community. In this role, you’ll ensure that our library resources are carefully selected, catalogued, and maintained to reflect the diverse interests and needs of Napier residents. Your work will directly support our mission to provide accessible, high-quality collections that enrich learning and foster a love of reading.
You’ll balance hands-on collection management with digital systems work — from acquisitions and cataloguing to quality control and data accuracy. Working closely with colleagues across Napier Libraries, you’ll contribute to an efficient, customer-focused service that continually adapts to new technologies, trends, and community expectations.

Select, acquire, and catalogue library materials across a variety of formats to agreed standards.
Maintain collection quality through evaluation, deselection, and stock management.
Use library systems and digital tools to manage acquisitions, orders, and budgets efficiently.
Share knowledge and support colleagues to enhance consistency, innovation, and customer experience.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
Experienced library professional with 3–4 years’ experience in collections or cataloguing.
Confident user of Library Management Systems, cloud-based tools, and online ordering platforms.
Strong organiser with excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to improving workflows.
Positive, customer-focused, and collaborative — someone who enjoys problem-solving and contributing to team success.

This is a fixed term opportunity until the end of February 2027 to cover a secondment. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You'll be based across the Napier and Taradale Libraries.
The annual salary package for this role is between $55,900-$65,700 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
