Compliance Officer

Napier City Council is seeking a proactive and solutions-focused Compliance Officer to join our Regulatory Delivery team. In this key role, you’ll help safeguard our community and environment by ensuring compliance with a wide range of legislation — including the Resource Management Act, Local Government Act, and Council Bylaws. From responding to complaints and conducting inspections to educating the public and managing enforcement actions, your work will directly support the safety, wellbeing, and liveability of our city.

He kōrero mōhou - About You
- Experience in a compliance, investigation, or regulatory environment.
- A New Zealand Certificate in Regulatory Compliance (Core Knowledge) – Level 4 or an equivalent diploma or work experience.
- Strong understanding of the Resource Management Act, Local Government Act, and Council Bylaws, with the ability to apply legislation pragmatically.
- Excellent communication, conflict management, and relationship-building skills, with a professional and balanced approach.
- Demonstrated initiative, sound judgement, and attention to detail in delivering customer-focused compliance outcomes.
- A New Zealand Certificate in Regulatory Compliance (Core Knowledge) – Level 4 is desired, or an equivalent diploma or work experience.

This is a permanent opportunity working 40 hours per week, generally Monday-Friday but some flexibility required for work outside of standard business hours.
The annual salary package for this role is between $79,000 to $93,000 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
