How can your GIS expertise transform the way a city makes decisions? As a GIS Officer at Napier City Council, you’ll be at the heart of revolutionising how data is used to support elected members and organisational leaders in making informed, data-driven decisions. Your work will ensure spatial information is accurate, accessible, and practical for both internal teams and the wider community.

Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Develop, produce, and deliver management information and reports to provide insights and aid decision-making.
- Create engaging data visualisations and prototypes to help users understand complex information.
- Support and configure GIS methods and tools and keep documentation up to date.
- Apply user experience design principles to ensure our GIS products are intuitive and accessible.
- Model and manage spatial and aspatial data and contribute to data science projects.
- Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders—across Council teams, with external partners, and the Napier community.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
- Tertiary-qualified in GIS, Cartography, Geography, Surveying, Information Management, or a related field, with 3–5 years’ hands-on experience using QGIS, LocalMaps, ESRI ArcGIS suite, and ArcGIS Online.
- Skilled in managing spatial and aspatial databases (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server, Enterprise Geodatabase) and programming in SQL, Python, FME, and ESRI ArcGIS languages (including Arcade).
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, turning complex data into actionable insights.
- Flexible, proactive, and committed to continuous learning, innovation, and delivering real results for the community.

This is a permanent, full time role working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based in Napier CBD.
The annual salary package for this role is between $84,600-$99,500 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
