Are you ready to make a difference in the world of building compliance? We're on the lookout for a Building Consents Officer (Processing) to join our team and ensure adherence to the New Zealand Building Code and legislative requirements.
In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in processing building consents, project information memorandums, and certificate of acceptance applications, all while helping us minimise financial risk and maintain Council's accreditation standards.

Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Process building consent applications to ensure they meet the New Zealand Building Code and minimise financial risk to the Council.
- Process project information memorandum (PIM) applications to comply with legislative requirements.
- Support Building Administrators with technical aspects of creating and amending compliance schedules during the consent process.
- Provide responsive and consistent service for unplanned or emergency obligations.
- Ensure Council meets or exceeds Building Consent Authority accreditation standards to maintain compliance under the Building Act.
- Review incoming building consent applications to ensure they include all necessary information for processing.
- Process certificate of acceptance and land information memorandum (LIM) applications to meet legislative requirements.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
- A qualification meeting Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006, or a trade-based construction qualification with a commitment to obtaining a Regulation 18-compliant qualification.
- A current driver’s licence.
- Experience in a Building Consent Authority or at least 9–10 years of practical construction industry experience.
- A good understanding of the Building Act and New Zealand Building Code.
- Strong organisational skills to manage and prioritise workloads while meeting deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage positively with diverse groups.
- Proficient in using computers and related technologies.
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- A customer-focused approach with a commitment to excellent service.

This is a full-time permanent opportunity, working Monday to Friday (40hours per week) at our Napier Officer.
