Building Assets Assurance Officer

In this pivotal role, you’ll take charge of critical systems, keeping a watchful eye on compliance risks like asbestos, seismic resilience, and electrical safety. With your expertise, you'll help us meet legislative requirements under the Building Act 2004, the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015, and related regulations.
Beyond compliance, you’ll drive proactive asset management, maintaining the longevity and safety of our buildings. Collaboration is key—you’ll work closely with Asset, Activity, and Facility Managers, Council teams, and external stakeholders, fostering strong, constructive partnerships with consultants and contractors.

As our Building Assets Assurance Officer your key responsibilities will include:
- Review and update Asbestos Management Plans for each building.
- Periodically review and update the Asbestos Policy with the Health & Safety Team.
- Develop and maintain a list of approved asbestos contractors.
- Engage asbestos surveyors as needed.
- Define and refine scopes for condition monitoring.
- Collaborate with the Asset Information team on monitoring electrical equipment.
- Work with the Procurement team to establish maintenance and service contractors.
- Ensure compliance management systems and processes are maintained.
- Develop and maintain process maps and procedures.
- Assist in maintaining the Business Continuity Plan.
- Support the team with Building Warrants of Fitness.
- Advise project teams to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
To be considered for the position you will have: (one or more of the following)
- NZ Certificate in Building Regulatory Environment
- Diploma in Facilities Management (DipFM) or equivalent technical knowledge
- 5+ years of experience in building compliance, risk management, or data analysis in New Zealand
- Experience in project scoping and stakeholder analysis
- Able to work with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve goals and meet performance standards
- Team-oriented
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams), Adobe
This is a permanent full time position, based at our Cape View location. We will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person.
