Insights Analyst (Fixed Term)
Bring your SQL, Power BI and business analysis expertise to work that improves how Napier’s services are planned and delivered.
Good analysis starts with understanding the question that needs answering. At Napier City Council, we’re looking for an experienced Insights Analyst who can work with teams to clarify what they need to know, investigate the data and turn findings into practical recommendations. From service delivery and people analytics to asset management and organisational performance, your work will help leaders understand what’s happening, where improvements are needed and how to respond.
Joining our Data & Digital team for 18 months, you’ll take work from the initial business question through to a completed reporting or improvement solution. Reporting to the Data & Insights Lead, you’ll bring together data from multiple systems, develop meaningful performance measures and build reliable datasets and Power BI reporting. Alongside this, you’ll identify opportunities to improve the systems and processes behind the information, helping teams build confidence in the data they use.
We’re looking for someone who brings proven SQL, Power BI and business analysis experience, with the judgement to ask the right questions and the confidence to take ownership of delivery. In return, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your expertise across a broad range of Council activities, delivering useful solutions during the appointment and leaving reporting and processes that teams can continue to use.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
In this role, you will:
• Work with teams to clarify business needs, define requirements and identify where data can support better decisions.
• Extract, transform and model data from multiple systems using SQL, creating reliable foundations for analysis.
• Develop Power BI dashboards, semantic models and reports that make complex information clear and useful.
• Analyse performance, trends and risks, translating findings into practical recommendations for leaders.
• Scope and deliver analytical and business improvement projects, managing priorities and agreed outcomes.
• Strengthen data quality, documentation and reporting practices, addressing underlying issues and improving processes.
