There’s something pretty special about helping someone make the most of their time in our region. Whether it’s recommending a local experience, helping plan the next leg of a New Zealand adventure, securing a booking, selling some retail or simply pointing someone in the right direction, you’ll help create a warm and memorable welcome to Napier.
We’re looking for an Information & Travel Consultant to join our team, working across the Napier isite Visitor Centre and Par2 MiniGolf. This is a hands-on customer-facing role combining visitor information, travel bookings, sales and local tourism knowledge – perfect for someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with people and sharing what our city and region have to offer.
You’ll be part of a busy environment welcoming locals and visitors from across New Zealand and around the world, including during our bustling cruise season. You’ll need to be comfortable thinking on your feet, balancing different priorities and turning great service into great visitor experiences.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
As an Information & Travel Consultant, you’ll be one of the first points of contact for people exploring Napier and Hawke’s Bay.
You’ll listen to what visitors are looking for, provide accurate and impartial advice and help turn their ideas into plans through accommodation, attraction, transport and tour bookings. Alongside providing great service, you’ll confidently identify opportunities to generate sales and additional revenue while ensuring recommendations remain focused on what’s right for the customer.
You’ll also:
Provide friendly and knowledgeable visitor information in person, by phone and online.
Make bookings for accommodation, attractions, tours and transport.
Use your sales skills to turn enquiries into bookings and identify additional opportunities.
Support retail sales, cash handling and day-to-day operations.
Help identify retail products to sell, order, receipt and present retail options
Build positive relationships with local and national tourism operators and suppliers.
Help keep our visitor information current, relevant and useful.
Support operations across both the Napier isite Visitor Centre and Par2 MiniGolf.
Keep calm and deliver great service during busy periods, including cruise ship days.

You’re someone who enjoys talking to people, quickly understands what they need, converts the discussion into sales and takes pride in providing genuinely helpful service. You’ll be confident recommending experiences and making sales without losing the personal, welcoming approach that great visitor service is built on.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
Strong experience in tourism, travel, customer service or sales.
Excellent knowledge of Hawke’s Bay and a good understanding of New Zealand tourism.
Confidence working in a sales environment, including cross-selling and upselling.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
Good computer skills and confidence learning and using multiple booking and point-of-sale systems.
Experience in identifying retail products that sell, ordering, receipting and merchandising
Experience with cash handling, receipting and balancing.
The ability to stay organised, adaptable and positive in a busy customer-facing environment.
A tourism or travel qualification, or willingness to work towards one.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday. You will be based at isite Visitor Information Centre.
The annual salary package for this role is $62,055 - $69,355 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
We will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person.
