3 Waters SCADA Engineer
Hands-on SCADA engineering role improving critical water infrastructure, control systems, and services that make a real impact.
Napier’s three waters network depends on accurate, secure, and well-integrated control systems and this role sits at the centre of it. As 3 Waters SCADA Engineer, you’ll design, maintain, and improve the SCADA systems that support water, wastewater, and stormwater operations, including the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
You’ll ensure end-to-end data integrity from field sensors through to reporting outputs supporting operational decision-making, compliance, and long-term asset management. Working closely with operational, infrastructure, and asset teams, you’ll help modernise systems, integrate legacy platforms, and strengthen the resilience and performance of Napier’s critical water infrastructure.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
Design, develop, and maintain SCADA systems across water, wastewater, and stormwater networks, ensuring secure and reliable performance
Support end-to-end data integrity, from field devices and telemetry through to reporting and operational insights
Work across system integration, interface design, documentation, and modernisation of legacy SCADA environments
Provide technical input into planning, operations, and asset management to ensure systems meet business and regulatory requirements
Contribute to capital and operational projects, supporting system design, commissioning, and successful delivery outcomes
Drive continuous improvement in SCADA capability, including reporting, automation, and system optimisation
He kōrero mōhou - About You
Engineering qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Controls, or Computer Systems Engineering
Experience working with SCADA systems, databases, and interface design in operational environments
Strong technical capability in programming (e.g. VBA, Python) and a solid understanding of data systems
Confident problem-solver with strong analytical thinking and attention to system integrity and detail
Able to communicate clearly and work effectively with engineers, operators, contractors, and stakeholders
Adaptable and curious, with a willingness to learn new technologies and contribute to continuous improvement

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based in Napier.
The annual salary package for this role is $98,696 - $116,113 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
