Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
Gain hands-on experience across maintenance, repair, construction, and operational activities.
Learn to operate water reticulation systems, plant, vehicles, and tools safely.
Respond to service requests and emergency callouts, helping keep Napier’s water supply reliable.
Contribute to new capital works and infrastructure upgrades.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
Motivated to work towards a National Certificate in Utilities Maintenance or equivalent.
Flexible, reliable, and safety-focused, with strong attention to detail.
A team player who can also work independently and show initiative.
Good communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
Hold a full (or restricted) driver’s licence; motivated to develop technical skills.
Previous experience in construction, civil works, or water infrastructure is desirable.

This is a permanent, full time role working 42.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You’ll be based out of Napier City Council’s operational depot in Onekawa, but spend much of your time working on the network across the city.
The hourly rate for this role is between $27.81-$30.18 (plus KiwiSaver if eligible), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
