Animal Control plays an important role in keeping our community safe while promoting responsible pet ownership. As Animal Control Administrator, you’ll be the first point of contact for enquiries and complaints, providing accurate advice and supporting regulatory processes that ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
Reporting to the Team Leader Animal Control, you’ll manage dog registration processes, maintain key systems including the National Dog Database and Council’s customer relationship management system, and support regulatory administration activities across the team. From coordinating hearings and appointments to assisting with shelter reception and financial reconciliations, your work will help ensure services run smoothly, professionally and with a strong customer focus.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
Act as the first point of contact for Animal Control enquiries and complaints
Manage dog registration processes, notices, penalties and database administration
Maintain accurate records across National Dog Database and MagiQ Enterprise systems
Coordinate hearings, appointments and correspondence relating to infringements and classifications
Provide face-to-face customer service at the animal shelter and support community education initiatives
He kōrero mōhou - About You
3–5 years’ administration experience, ideally in a regulatory or compliance environment
Confident using Microsoft Office and able to quickly learn new systems and processes
Highly organised with strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in financial and database work
A clear communicator who delivers excellent customer service across diverse situations
An interest in animal welfare and the ability to understand and apply relevant legislation
Prior experience in animal control and/or local government administration is desirable but not essential.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based out of Napier City Council’s operational depot in Onekawa.
The annual salary package for this role is between $59,700-$70,300 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
