Have you got a mind for technology and enjoy helping people solve IT challenges? Napier City Council is looking for an IT Support Technician – Level 1 to join our Digital Services team for a fixed term of 5 months. In this role, you will provide first-line IT support to staff across the organisation, responding to service requests, troubleshooting issues, and assisting with the installation and maintenance of IT systems.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the smooth running of a diverse and dynamic organisation, ensuring staff have the tools and support they need to work efficiently and effectively. Working closely with the IT Support Team Leader and other colleagues, you will help maintain a reliable and secure technology environment, while developing your skills and experience in IT support, incident management, and system administration.
An IT background is preferred, but not essential. If you bring strong customer service skills, a passion for technology, and a willingness to learn, we’re ready to support you to build your IT career.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
Respond to common IT service requests and incidents, providing accurate information and support.
Assist with installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of IT systems and equipment.
Support user identity and access management tasks, maintaining accurate records.
Contribute to knowledge bases and documentation to support service continuity.
Escalate more complex issues and communicate effectively with users and team members.
Participate in team initiatives, continuous learning, and process improvement.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
Diploma in Computer Studies (Level 5/6) or equivalent experience, or strong demonstrated interest in IT.
Knowledge of MS Desktop OS, Office suite, networking basics, and PC principles.
Experience in customer service, helpdesk, or support roles with exposure to troubleshooting or problem-solving.
Strong communication skills and a proactive, solution-focused attitude.
Ability to work in a team, manage competing demands, and maintain confidentiality.

This is a fixed term opportunity until July 2026 to cover a secondment. You will be working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based in Napier CBD.
The annual salary package for this role is between $59,700-$70,300 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
