Summer Engineering Intern
Kick-start your engineering career this summer — work on real water infrastructure projects that make a difference to Napier.
Join Napier City Council’s Water Operations team for a paid summer placement that will give you hands-on experience in real engineering work. Over 12 weeks, you’ll support our engineers with technical tasks, field inspections, and project delivery across water, wastewater, and stormwater networks. This is a chance to apply what you’ve learned in your studies to meaningful community outcomes while developing practical skills in a supportive team.
You’ll be working full-time and contributing to projects that help keep Napier’s essential services running. From GIS mapping and data analysis to site visits and technical reporting, you’ll gain exposure to a wide range of civil engineering activities — and get a valuable look into how councils plan, design, and deliver critical infrastructure. This experience will strengthen your CV and help you build connections with potential future employers.

He kōrero mōhou - About You
- Currently studying Civil Engineering, ideally with an interest in water, three-waters, or infrastructure.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with curiosity and willingness to learn.
- Some familiarity with GIS, CAD, or modelling tools (beneficial but not essential).
- Clear communicator who works well with others and enjoys practical, real-world tasks.
This is a 12 week fixed term opportunity between December 2025 and February 2026. You will be working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday and be based in Napier.
The hourly rate for this role is $28 (including KiwiSaver).
