As an Alleyways City Cleaner, you’ll play a vital role maintaining the cleanliness and safety of Napier’s alleyways, walkways, and bus stops — ensuring our community enjoys a tidy, hazard-free environment every day.
You’ll work as part of a supportive, safety-focused team, conducting regular cleaning, inspections, and maintenance tasks, while building strong relationships with the public and your colleagues. Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Perform essential daily tasks including rubbish removal, weed control, graffiti reporting, and minor maintenance.
- Work outdoors in a hands-on role that keeps the community safe and welcoming.
- Join a friendly, supportive team focused on safety and delivering excellent public service.
- Develop your skills with opportunities for training, including certification to carry out spraying.
- Be a key part of creating a positive environment for residents, visitors, and businesses across Napier.
He kōrero mōhou - About You
- You’re physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- You have experience with manual labour and using cleaning equipment, with a keen eye for detail.
- You hold a full driver’s licence. Ability to operate light vehicles a plus.
- You communicate clearly and enjoy providing courteous, helpful service to the public.
- You work well both independently and as part of a team, taking pride in your work.
- You’re reliable, proactive, and committed to health and safety at all times.
- Experience with gardening tools and spraying certification is a plus, or you’re eager to learn.

This is a permanent, full time role working 42.5 hours per week, Sunday-Thursday. You’ll be based out of Napier City Council’s operational site in Onekawa, but predominantly working across Napier’s public spaces.
The hourly rate for this role sits between $27.27-$29.01 depending on your skills and experience.
We will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person.
