Join our team as an Environmental Health & Alcohol Licensing Officer, where you'll contribute to community safety and wellbeing through the regulation of food safety, alcohol licensing and environmental health. You'll be responsible for undertaking verification, inspections, investigations and enforcement activities to ensure our community meets all necessary legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct food safety inspections and verify businesses are operating within the Food Act 2014.
- Perform site inspections of licensed premises (on, off, and club) to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Take action on non-compliance, whether informally or through formal enforcement.
- Prepare reports and provide recommendations on licensing applications.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including Police and the Health New Zealand, to conduct controlled purchase operations.
- Manage legal cases, prepare evidence, and present findings in court as necessary.
- Provide advice and support to applicants and community members regarding licensing and compliance issues.
What You’ll Bring:
- A degree or qualification that meets the requirements for Environmental Health Officer status under the 1993 regulations, or equivalent knowledge.
- 7+ years of experience in a regulatory role related to environmental health or alcohol license inspections.
- Solid understanding of relevant laws, including the Food Act 2014, Health Act 1956, and Sale & Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.
- Experience in enforcing and managing environmental health regulations and alcohol licensing, ideally within local government, including investigations and prosecutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to make well-informed decisions by applying rules and regulations while considering risks and impacts.
- Proactively plans and manages work and resources effectively.
