Visitors Services Supervisor: Retail & Admissions - National Aquarium of New Zealand

Napier, New Zealand

Reference: 5948099

Permanent position working 35 hours per week with alternate weekends off. Some evening work will be required.

Napier City Council is one of Napier's biggest and most desirable employers - we value excellence, integrity, sustainability and outstanding customer and community service.

The National Aquarium of New Zealand is owned by the people of Napier and Napier City Council. It attracts 150,000 visitors each year and offers a wide range of experiences from diver displays and keeper talks, to getting up close and personal with little penguins. Its centrepiece exhibit is the stunning 1.5 million litre Oceanarium with a 50m-long viewing tunnel.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced front of house leader to join our Visitor Services team. You will be instrumental in maintaining our excellent reputation on the front line whilst leading a team of 6 staff members plus casuals.

This is a busy role and requires someone with the ability to think on their feet and multi task, ensuring the customer is always at the forefront.

The right person will have experience in leading a successful team in a retail or tourism environment, together with hands on customer service experience. You will be in charge of retail, memberships, admissions and tour bookings, as well as assisting with e-commerce and retail social media so you will need previous buying or merchandising experience.

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience in providing leadership, clear direction and support to all staff in a customer services environment
  • A highly responsive and consistent approach to delivery of services.
  • Experience in training and supporting the ongoing development of a high performing and competent team
  • Experience in recruitment, rostering and people management
  • Proven stakeholder / relationship management skills

We are an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status although applicants must have existing rights to work in New Zealand.

Our preferred candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening which will include drug testing and, for some roles, health screening. This role requires the candidate to be able to obtain and hold a current Duty Manager's certificate.
