Transport Operations Lead

Napier, New Zealand

Napier City Council is currently seeking an experienced Transport Operations Lead to oversee the day to day management of the maintenance team and operational functions of the transportation network, as well as setting the strategic direction of the team in line with Council's policy, relevant legislation and community needs.

As a critical member of the Ahuriri Alliance management team, you will provide leadership to the Asset Management and Engineering Team and wider Ahuriri Alliance, ensuring customer-orientated transportation solutions are delivered in a professional manner, with service excellence, and maintaining a positive public profile.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A professional tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering
  • Significant experience in Road Maintenance, Utilities and/or Construction management.
  • Understanding of local government processes and systems
  • Good working knowledge of Waka Kotahi funding and procurement processes
  • Knowledge of Asset Management best practice, pavement testing technologies, pavement modelling and design; and subsequent work programming
  • Knowledge of procurement, contract standards, traffic regulations and legislation
  • Experience with developing and maintaining contract relationships and partnering
  • Engineering judgement and decision-making skills are required at an appropriate level
  • Ability to solve problems of complexity and develop new approaches and ideas
  • Experience in developing forward works programmes and managing budgets
  • A proven track record in identifying and delivering improvement opportunities
  • Familiarity with asset management analysis tools - dTIMS, Junoviewer, and RAMM
  • Clear demonstration of leadership behaviours that empower and supports others.
