Design Engineer (3 Waters)

Napier, New Zealand

Reference: 6341105

Napier City Council is currently accepting applications for Design Engineers to join our Infrastructure directive's Design & Draughting Team. The team provides civil engineering design and contract management services for a variety of projects, including three waters construction, road construction, car parks, sportsgrounds and other civil engineering works throughout the City of Napier.

With a specific focus on 3 Waters, you will be responsible for ensuring the coordinated design of critical drinking water, wastewater and storm water projects. Working across the full water cycle, you will design innovative, high-performing and environmentally sustainable solutions that ensure healthy ecosystems, resilient communities and thriving economies for both our current and future generations.

Interpreting survey result into technical drawings, you'll bring extensive design software experience (12d and/or OpenRoads) and will be someone who thrives off overcoming design obstacles in the 3 Waters space. Strong relationship management skills are also key - you'll be liaising with external contractors, as well as asset managers, project managers and senior stakeholders to manage expectations and ensure desired outcomes are met.

This is a pivotal time to join Napier City Council's Infrastructure team, with exposure to a wide variety of projects and mentorship in place. Whether you're recently qualified, a current Associate Engineer, or looking to move into a Senior Design Engineer role, we want to hear from you.

This role is for you if you have:

  • A professional tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Civil Engineering or NZCE (Civil).
  • Previous New Zealand based civil engineering design experience
  • Understanding of ] land surveying practices and principles
  • Project experience from a 3 Waters infrastructure environment
  • Experience using design software for computation and design

There has never been a more exciting time than now to join the water industry. The government's 3 Waters Reform programme aims to achieve an improved water services system that delivers safe and sustainable water for everyone in Aotearoa through the establishment of four publicly-owned water entities. This means that in June 2024 the water services currently managed by Napier City Council, and Council employees who work primarily in water services, will transfer to the new entity. This excludes senior managers. Please be aware that the position being advertised may transfer from Napier City Council to the new water entity from June 2024. You can find out more here https://threewaters.govt.nz/more-information/

We will be interviewing suitable candidates as applications are received and may close this advertisement when we have found the right person.
