Principal Policy Planner (Hybrid or Remote Working)

Are you an experienced policy planner looking for a new challenge in a dynamic and progressive environment? Look no further! We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Policy Planner with extensive district planning experience to join our City Strategy Team. This role is offered on a hyper-flexible basis - part-time, flexible working, and remote working requirements can be accommodated.

As Principal Policy Planner, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of city development policies are consistent with Council strategies while providing quality policy advice, analysis and formulation in the field of resource management and local government policy, including the RMA reforms. You will also be mentoring and guiding the policy team in their decisions and development.

This position has a high level of influence and impact across the Council. You will be leading the strategic direction in relation to the future growth in Napier, involved in the Future Development Strategy and the Regional Spatial Plan. This role would ideally suit someone who has at least 10 years experience in a resource management position, either policy or regulatory.

Requirements

  • A tertiary degree or master's qualification in policy planning or natural resource management or a similar related field
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of legislation relating to resource management and local government
  • Eligibility for NZPI membership
  • Demonstrated project management skills to enable the coordination of strategic environmental research and policy preparation.
  • Experience in District Plan review and environment court proceedings
