Waste Water Operator

Permanent position - minimum of 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Sunday (rostered).

Napier City Council's Three Waters City Operations Services team are currently seeking a new Wastewater Operator to join our team based in Napier. This is a great opportunity if you are an experienced wastewater operator or have a demonstrable mechanical and municipal wastewater pumping background. As a Wastewater Operator your role will be working in a small team carrying out the maintenance and operations on around forty wastewater pump stations, around seven storm water pump stations and a wastewater treatment plant. The team are responsible for undertaking operational checks, maintenance activities, data collection and also part of undertaking improvement and upgrade works on these assets.

As a 24/7 operation the role demands flexibility for team members in working hours and being part of an after-hours roster. Participation in the after-hours roster follows a training period. We work a 42.5 hour week Monday to Sunday and you must be able to work overtime if required.

Ideally you would have:

  • 2 - 3 years' secondary schooling
  • Experience working within the 3 waters maintenance and/or installation within the construction industry, including confined spaces and working at heights
  • Mechanical ability
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Strong focus on integrity, health and safety and quality
  • Self-motivation coupled with ability to problem solve
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Full Class 1 drivers licence
  • Computer literate
